Crown Lifting
Crown lifting is the removal of the lowest branches and is an effective method of increasing light to areas closer to the tree or to enable access under the crown.
Crown lifting should be specified to a fixed height, eg, crown lift to 5m clearance above ground level.
It is good practice to avoid removing substantial branches growing directly from the trunk. This can cause large wounds on the trunk which may become decayed as they struggle to seal over effectively due to their size. This will lead to long term problems of decay in the trunk of the tree.
If done correctly by an experienced tree surgeon, crown lifting can really help to open up the area around the tree.
Crown Reduction
Crown reduction is the reduction in height and/or spread of a tree. Crown reduction can be used to reduce stress on individual branches or the whole tree it can make the tree more suited to its immediate environment; or to reduce the effects of shading and light loss.
Combined with some crown lifting and crown thinning the final result of a whole tree reduction can really open up the area around a tree and increase the light and feeling of space in your garden.
if a skilled tree surgeon reduces a tree, it should still have a natural looking appearance that respects the form and structure of that particular species. If a tree looks like it has obviously been cut back, then it’s most likely been done incorrectly.
Crown Thinning
Crown thinning is the removal of smaller branches, usually towards the outer portion of the crown.
The aim is to produce a uniform density of foliage and an evenly spaced branch structure. Crown thinning is only really effective on non-coniferous trees, like birch, oak, cherry and sycamore. Crown thinning does not alter the overall size or shape of the tree.
Crown thinning allows more light to pass through the tree also reduces wind resistance and reduces weight.
Tree Felling/Removal
Our tree removal service involves taking a tree down to a stump. In most cases the tree is cut into pieces and taken down to avoid damage to your property. In some cases, if space allows, a tree can be felled to the ground in one go.

There are many reasons why a tree has to be taken down in sections, usually when there isn’t enough room to fell the whole tree but also for safety, removing larger limbs or reducing heght. This can involve setting up and using pulley systems to safely lower parts of the tree to the ground
